How do you hire the right remodeling contractor? It’s a hard question to answer, but if you do an internet search for remodeling contractors in your area, your computer screen will be populated with thousands of results. In a sea of contractors providing remodeling services in your area, how would you know which one is reliable? Should you call friends and family and interview each one to assess who they prefer? As with any remodeling project, hiring the right remodeling contractor is essential.

The most prudent way to hire a remodeling contractor is to inquire about the experiences of friends and family, who they used, and if they would refer a remodeler. This is a great strategy to find how a remodeling contractor might perform in your house without actually hiring them. Ask questions like is there anything you would do different and what were their strengths and weaknesses. You may have different standards of quality then the people you know. Knowing what other people paid for their remodel is a great advantage as well.

If you don’t know any friends who have recently hired a remodeling contractor, the next step will most likely involve an interview process. This is best accomplished through internet search or an “old school” telephone book search.
